Dreaded wastegate rattle?
« on: July 11, 2017, 11:35:16 pm »
Hello

Took my downpipe off as thought it was rattling inside but realised it was the turbo wastegate rattle .. sounds exactly like this

and here is what is happening...

The bit he is pulling up with the plier rotates.. It was too dark so I couldnt see if the hole opens up or not but I am guessing that hole is meant to be fully sealed when the car is off? I am going to give it a better look tomorrow morning as I could barely see any thing in the dark but dreading it right now!! Any one know if this is expensive to repair or can it be done by myself? :(

The wastegate inside seems to rattle quite a bit but I didn’t get a clear enough view on if there is a gap between the hole and the wastegate or didn’t try opening and closing it because I didn’t actually know what it was till I just saw some videos on it. The good news by the looks of it is that the turbo was bought from Midland Turbo exactly 1 year and 1 month ago and on their website it states "We provide a free collect and return service throughout the UK and all our work is guaranteed for 24 months with unlimited mileage." So I am going to email them and may be able to get them to send a replacement turbo out however the concern will be putting the downpipe back on again and giving it to a well known garage to get the turbo removed and replaced. Is it repairable or is it a turbo replacement job?

Thanks
