Sorry for the very crappy pic, cropped from an old Snapchat I took. Did matte black with glossifier on top in the hope of getting a sort of gloss/wet look but came out not quite so glossy.

Haven't washed it as yet since to the touch it seems quite soft so worried it may peel but time will tell. Looks wise turned out looking brand new but not wet look/glossy if that makes sense. I was going to paint too but couldn't be bothered so sand so thought I'd try out plastidip - easy to remove and paint later if it isn't durable too  :happy2:

On an slightly related note broke 2 of the clips on the back of my GTI badge and found the eBay jobbies with the bolts coming out the back won't fit unless I drill holes where the original badge holders are - any ways round this?  - OEM badge replacement seems like an expensive option

Ahh should have left gti badge in place, can peel the plastidip off of certain things remember  :happy2:

That looks good @gman

Might be tempted to try it. Anything's better than faded grey..!

I had mine done at work and haven't had any pealing and it's been done for ages.

Prepped and then painted black form the gun and then used Matt lacquer  :happy2:

All my grilles faded on mine, I bought some cheap eBay ones which were rubbish quality so sent them back. Then sprayed them with matt black plastidip which they looked awsome but it started peeling after a few washes so just ended up buying all new ones from Tps and coated them in qtechniq c5 to protect them from fading

Ok everyone, I tackled the plastidip smoke on all my grilles last night.

Masked everything off including badge (didn't need to remove it)

Cleaned it all down with IPA and a microfibre

One can gave me 6 coats with 30 mins drying time in between

Have to say it looks amazing and the smoke plastidip is the closest to OEM that you could get

How do I upload photos now? Flickr?

Really interested in how this looks as well.  Been contemplating buying a new honeycomb grill for a while as mine just looks grey.

Plastidip is awesome stuff, I did the Lipstick and VW badge on a spare Set it's seriously hardy stuff; I've had my winter wheels lashed with it for, geesh must be 4 years, it even goes through the drive through car wash ( I know hideous for swirls etc ) but just goes to show once it's on it's on... don't get me wrong it will peel off when encouraged but still, well worth a try... a little advice if you haven't used it before would be; warm the can/s in a bucket of " luke " warm not Hot water, and make sure your prep surface is clean, and put a fine coating on the first few coats and let dry inbetween, then you can lay it on more thickly; and clean the nossle with a clean cloth inbetween coats so you get a nice fine spray rather than clumps :)
