Oil leak
«
on:

Was under the car earlier today and found this leak. Thinks it's engine oil and idea where it could be coming from.
Also only seems to be leaking when the engine is running
Looked around abit and can't seem to find it.

Hmm. if it only leaks whilst engine is running, is it possible to get it cleaned up, get it on some wheel ramps and watch for where the leak comes from?

I think this is the best option.
Just hoping it's something simple to fix and not to costly, if I can't find the problem will get it in to a garage so they can investigate further.
Thanks for the help.

Smell the oil. If it really stinks, it's gear oil. Engine oil is odourless usually.
Is it DSG or Manual? It could be a rear main seal (engine) or an input shaft seal (gearbox).

DSG fluid smells fishy. Like the glue in primary school if you remember it!

Car will be going in on Monday.
I've looked closer and seems to be rear main seal common problem on tsi engines.
Cause more then likely pcv valve failed and built up pressure causeing seal to leak.
Not happy it's a gearbox out job for a cheap part.

Can you let me know the cost, I have an oil leak that im not sure where is coming from as well - it gets onto the underside of the gearbox so I fear that it is the main seal as well. Only leaks when warm/driving

Will do mate same issue as me as my cars garaged and no oil on the floor.
Got a rough price of £650 but he is looking Monday and will tally everything up.
