When you say 57 plate. Does this mean the car is from 2005 / 7 month?

If yes I'm pretty sure you need a new canbus gateway.

57 is late 2007.

I had an RCD510DAB fitted to my 07 (early 2007) and didn't need to change it.

Get someone with vcds to scan it to tell u the part number or fit the rns and if you get battery drain then you know it needs changing

If your car is a 2007 it won't need changing.

It also depends on the revision of RNS510.  The later ones can have the battery drain fix done internally with a software tweak.  Mine is a version 'Q' with the tweak, and no draining issues.  Left it in Gatwick for 2 weeks and it fired right up  :happy2:

Take a look at these pages and see what Canbus you are going to need. The later unmodified revisions of RNS510 firmware above 2660 will give you a battery drain issue if your can-bus is K or earlier. The critical change over year was 2007 so just do a little checking against what you have.

As @Pudding said some enterprising people have modified the firmware to code out the issue but you will need a little bit of research. Some revisions of canbus L will work but its hit and miss due to the specific L revision. Anything above this *should* be fine but there are more expert people on here than me who can confirm

Aye.  I bought an updated CANBUS and that was more hassle than it was worth, so refitted the original box.  Bought a newer 510 off the bay and the seller asked if I wanted the internal BD tweak done, which would remove the need for a gateway update.  Yeah, why not, go ahead!

I can't remember the ebay shop, but from his English I'm guessing East European, and obviously a ton of 510s available over there due to the terrible driving.
