Ramair Induction Kit
« on: November 24, 2017, 07:58:20 pm »
Hi guys, I wanted to know if you could help me out with a question I have! I’ve recently fitted the Oversized Stage 2 Ramair Induction" kit onto my Edition 30! For the first week it’s been absolutely fine, but this week when I put my foot down in 3rd/4th and 5th there’s a fluttering sound as its building boost! The past two days when I get to 3000rpm in 3rd and 4000rpm in 4th I get a very small spike on my rev counter (it’s jumps about 100/200rpm)! Is this something that can be sorted out with a map as I’m thinking it’s either overboosting or underboosing!

Cheers for any quick replies!

Tom

You have a way to log boost data?
Measure blocks are 115 and 118 with Vag-Com. Do your best at getting some data to see what the target and actual boost is.
Mine makes a sound perhaps similar to yours but only if I do full throttle from a low rpm in those gears for data logging. All other times I downshift.
I believe it is just not enough air for the compressor to push when ECU tries making target boost. Called compressor surge. Best way to explain this is the compressor chops through the air rather than pushing the air. So, it's an imbalance on both the exhaust and inlet sides. In other words, the exhaust is spinning the compressor so fast that the compressor needs a balanced resistance to prevent surge.
If happening at just when at low rpm's...try again at higher rpm and post what you find. Might just need to keep it in the power band when planning on full throttle mode and downshift  :drinking:

What's the diameter of the intake tube? You have the intake but no tune?

Would a fault diverter valve be a likely cause for the above too?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Would just result in loss of power.

Thanks mate! No I haven't got Vag-com to check.

No sure what the tube diameter is but I bought it from their website to bolt straight onto our car. And no I currently don't have it tuned/mapped, I'm having that done in the beginning of the new year. I have also bought a better DV from AwesomeGTI so hopefully that fixes

It's normal.  You're just hearing things the factory airbox masks.  It does sound like your ECU has adapted up a little bit.  Normally they adapt down.....but with this cold weather, the boost is going to ramp up faster than normal.   Give the ECU a bit more time to settle down again.
