MFD2 ipod connectivity

Hi, i got my golf gt tdi 4 weeks ago and would really like to connect my ipod to the car. I know you can buy a lead for it and have heard you can connect something to the cd changer in the armrest. Whats the best option, i dont want to open the mfd2 unit up at all.

The 6-cd changer can be replaced with an OEM iPod connection (or MDI I think), but you can't have both 6-cd and ipod AFAIK.

Sound like it, if so you either have the option of the VW OEM (in arm rest) iPod dock like cmdrfire has mentioned or IMHO I would go for the Dension kit as this can display the song info on the highline cluster unlike the VW kit which is very limited.

ok, so for the most minimal work, do i just unplug the cd changer from the armrest and add a connector to the lead? I'd happily swap my ipod for a cd changer!

Thanks for the Dension kit, its 80 pounds at halfords inc fitting, how hard isit to do yourself Steve?

You will need to connect it directly to the back of the head unit as the connector is different on each end.

Fitting is easy but means pulling a bit of the dash board apart.

TBH if the Halford one is this version - http://www.dension.com/GW100.php and you aren't too keen on pulling the headunit out then it's not a bad deal really.

Just drop them an email to confirm if a do the CAN BUS version that supports the cluster display as there website isn't very clear.

Does the Dension kit play via the radio ie: like a fitted FM transmitter or does it go through the system via the aux or something - Basically I just want to know is the sound 'normal' or 'FM' quality like the transmitters are ( I have one and the sounds poooo!)

I'd personally go the oem route and get the Ipod armrest dock, would mean unplugging and removing the 6 disc, and replacing it with the ipod dock.

The dension kit goes in via the CD Changer port so is like an aux in 

Like Matt says the VW one is the best phyiscally integrated to the car but is a bit rubbish on the functionality side.

hmmm I have MFD2 & 6CD changer (all oem) - I want the great quality but like you say vw version is not so hot on the functionality side of things.

What is my best option - considering price as well?

also I'm thinking if I replaced my MFD2 with a new all all in one sat nav/dvd malarky and storage space or ipod input it might not be so much more?

Yeah that is a very good point, and I think I over look the poor functionality of the VW ipod dock; you have no control over what you listen to, you can set up 6 playlists, but thats it, no track names either.
