Pop down to Halfords and get yourself a compression tester mate. I know you don't want to hear this, but we need to outrule cylinder issues first
Pull the plugs (check them for oil fouling whilst they're out), remove relays 100 and 167 from the fusebox in the engine bay. Screw the compression tester into cylinder 1, crank it over for ~ 10 seconds. Take a reading, repeat on the other 3.
You want to see at least 200psi on all 4, slightly more ideally. 170-180 is acceptable, but the outer limit and could do with a rebuild. Huge variance across 1 or more cylinders usually spells trouble - most likely a cracked ring land if it's around 50psi.
If your bottom end is 200 or more, then happy days, we can sign the engine off as healthy. A leak down test would be useful too, but you can't do that yourself without a compressor and a sparkplug adapter for it.
If not the engine, it's usually PCV deletes, followed by full TBE 3" exhausts, followed by worn turbo seals, and lastly, worn valve guides/seals.
What's the full spec of your engine mate?
