Stereo with compatible canbus revision
«
on:
August 17, 2017, 09:41:31 pm »
Ive just bought a new stereo off eBay (see picture)
It states that I wil need a new canbus gateway as mine is revision F, found this one on the internet that is a Q revision. Is it fairly simple to code the Q revision gateway to my car? I have VCDS at my disposal.
Thanks
Dave

You will need 7n0 gateway to get it connected with the stereo. With this one, it will not drain your battery, but you will not have connection via VCDS with the stereo as it is the new one. Same thing with 315 and 1k0 gateway.

Does the gateway have to be connected to the stereo then for it to function etc? Or will it lose the volume up and down function on the steering wheel? I never use that anyway as out of habit I turn it manually

You shouldnt be able to use your wheel or see any info on the instrument cluster.

I will lose mpg and distance etc off my multi function wheel? I don't have high line clocks. Think mine are called midline clocks.

@Pashka
what are the implications of not using a 1k0 versus 7n0 gateway? I'm confused.

1k0 just superceded by 7n0, if you use any later versions of 1k0 or any version 7n0 its all relatively the same for battery drain purposes

Sorry I'm really confused here..
I will need a 7n0 canbus for the stereo to work with drain? If I go with the 1k0 then it can't be coded with the stereo so I will lose all of the multifunction steering wheel buttons like mpg etc?

1k0 will fix the battery drain issue, just wont connect with your stereo. It means no mfsw control for the stereo, no stereo info on the dash. It has nothing with mpg etc. cheers
