mk5 cruise control retrofit issue
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:15:49 pm »
Hi all, I was hoping someone could help. As the title suggests I'm trying to fit cruise control to my 08 GT TDI but cant seem to get it working...

So far I've fitted the stalk (part no. 1K0-953-513-A). I've read that my control module (part no. VW 1K0 953 549 CA) and slip ring should be compatible already. With VCDS I went into 'steering wheel', then 'coding' and used the pop up menu   http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Wheel#Coding              to work out the code which was 000042. The first 2 was for 'with  board computer and with cruise control' as I obviously want CC enabled, this may be wrong? I then went into 'engine' and added the 'enable CC' code which is 11463.

Ive tried cleaning the contacts inside the stalk with no luck. I've come to the conclusion that either the stalk is faulty or it needs to be the newer stalk (part no. 1K0-054-690-A). Would be great to get some advice before I shell out on other bits to swap and try.

Many thanks

Are you certain you have the required wire leading from the engine to the steering control module? (I know later models should but you'd never know until you check)

I went for the 1K0953513G stalk, from recollection this is the 2nd last one that came on the mk5, the next one was used on the latest mk5 and early mk6.

Hi thanks for the reply, yes have checked that and have a black wire in pin 13.

Sounds like the stalk model should be compatible then, maybe it's just faulty.

When I had my stalk fitted by EddieNL through VCDS he pulled up a screen which gave a binary string where each bit represented the state of switches on the cruise stalk. Might be worth a bit of research? Then you can flip switches and watch 1s and 0s toggle (or not) to diagnose the stalk.
