Strut / damper question...
« on: September 01, 2017, 12:30:42 pm »
Hey guys. So my mechanic have now for the 4th time forgot about our deal that he should do my struts, springs, bearings and all that..

Thinking of doing it myself now since I got some time on the hand tomorrow.

I've bought the Bilstein B12 kit. So here's my question - shouldn't there be some dust "cover/protection" to the dampers?  Or do you just install it wihtout?

Some kits supply them, some don't, but as the B12 is the regular strut configuration, you should be able to re-use the VW ones.  Might need a bit of trimming though.

Dampers are never totally sealed from the elements anyway, but the main benefit of the covers is to stop small grit particles getting trapped between the piston shaft and the outer seal.
