DSG - Jerking in 1st and Reverse - Garage Recommendation
« on: September 01, 2017, 10:50:33 pm »
Hi guys,

First time posting! Having issues with my 57 plate GTI  DSG when taking off. After some reading I brought it in for a adaptation, was running lovely for the first 10-15mins until the usual of warming up. My guess it's more severe. Anyone any recommendation of a specialist in London?

Cheers, Damien

Been in for a scan and no faults found. Dealers wanted 400quid to just drop the box to investigate further. I'd rather go to an independent for the works if anyone had a recommendation for London area.

Sounds like the same as i had. It was mechatronics.

But get it checked out first.

mine did exactly this, usually only once in traffic and warm

they did the clutch packs first, which made it a bit better but didn't fix it and then later replaced the whole box because it also had a bit of bearing wine in second gear (which the new box has as well - must be how they sound!) touch wood its been perfect since.

But I did 2 adaptions which didn't do anything and they did a good check into the parameters at VW and they said it was all well within limits, but couldn't deny that on the test drive it was very jerky and replaced the box.

there must be people about repairing these mechatronics units, VW wanted something like 2k for it!

It will be mechatronic unit. Classic symptons.

Best off buying a second hand box IMO. Ive had one for as cheap as £250, and it gave me no problems up untill the day I sold the car.

Thanks all for the replies.

I definitely like this price better, must try track one down.

Ain't there companies that could repair this instead.
Would this not be cheaper.

Company that fixed mine i think charged £800 to recon your mechatronics. It was over 2 year ago so not 100% on price. It was done by a garage called slaters garage in nottingham.

I done mine through warranty so got a new one.

Just a quick update and more questions. Been in to an Auto Specialist and said there's no fault with the Mechatronic and said it'll be the clutch. He quoted £2200 for a clutch replace or said to track down a second hand box. I've a BWA engine with a KCZ gearbox. Is there any other codes that would work? Any suggestions where to pick up a second hand?

Thanks, Damien

Ye was a shock, was hoping fix would come under £1k. Quoting £500 to refit a second hand box when I find one.

I was told it was clutch packs at first. But from reading alsorts about it i got more than one opinion and it was mechatronics. Even the warranty lot were trying to say it was the clutch packs.

If i was you i would be taking it to a few places and a place that has previous history of working on the problem for there opinion. No chance i would be shelling that out and it isn't even the clutch packs.

Sounds the exact same symtoms i had. No fault codes etc either.

Good luck.

I would remove and send the mechatronics off for testing, it's under £100 for testing and shipping with ac tronics, that's what I usually do of its not clear cut.

The other place recommended on here for DSG repairs is a place in Bristol, not exactly on the doorstep but that and the Nottingham one have had high praise.
Think I've saved the link so will have a look.

Here you go.
