New Battery - Any Recommendations?
« on: September 12, 2017, 12:05:23 pm »
Battery was 'ify' last winter, and I don't do enough miles to keep it charged up, so aiming to replace before the winter sets in.

Any recs, pls, on make and supplier?? It's '05 GTI DSG, and on original Varta battery, so 12 years aint bad is it!

Cheers :happy2:

Bosch S5 in mine

Just make sure you get the correct size, a lot of places (Euro Car parts, CarParts4less etc.) list a smaller battery, no doubt to make the price more appealing, but the battery simply isn't up to the job and will struggle in the cold within a year or two....

Needs to be the '096' type. L278 X W175 X H190

Normally use VAG or Varta's own E44 but on this occasion I grabbed a Yuasa Black.

The suggestions above are all good. I myself was going to get a Varta about 18 months ago as the old battery on my 2005 GTI was rather tired, but when I was in TPS one day I spotted a deal on their Quantum batteries. It has a 3yr warranty and I got it for £35. From day one perfect, turns the engine over quickly and starts perfectly when the car is left for weeks. I can't fault it. I don't know who makes it but it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Found the Varta E44 at Tayna: https://www.tayna.co.uk/E44-Varta-Silver-Dynamic-Car-Battery-P7726.html

Anywhere cheaper than the £88 delivered from Tayna that anybody knows about?

Cheers. :drinking:

I looke at this a few weeks back, but other things needed my attention. It was £76 then, plus about £8 delivery (£84). I suspect prices will continue to nudge up over the next few months......

So, any better deals ??

I had a good look around for a cheaper source for mine the other month but couldn't find one. Also, Tanya seem quite reputable so you know the storage will have been spot on and they give it a good charge before sending it, apparently.

Cheers all.

I contacted Tayna, and they gave me a discount code if I "liked" them on facebook.

The code was "FACEBOOK45", which gave a £2 discount.

Not massive, but a nice gesture nonetheless.
