Rear springs on my GT TDI

Evening all,

First post on here but I've been frequenting on here recently and decided to finally sign up. I used to be around on the UK-MKIVS forum when I used to have my old MK4 a few years ago but it's not as active as it used to be.

I picked up an 07 GT TDI back at the start of August and overall been very happy with the car. I've done a few minor things to it just to keep it original as possible and just about there with it. However since owning it, I've always noticed that the rear of the car tends to sit lower than the front just slightly. As far as I know - it's still on OEM suspension all round, however it did have the front springs replaced back in 2013 with OEM GT spec Sachs according to a past invoice and I'm fairly adamant that both rear springs were replaced back in 2015 as a past MOT indicated a broken rear spring.

However I have no record of what rear springs they were replaced with, though they look identical to the OEM pair that Sachs make. The ride height on the front looks spot on for a GT TDI when comparing others out there but the rear just sits a good 1 - 1.5CM too low than how it should. Besides the fact that it may have the wrong rear springs fitted, is there anything else on the rear suspension that could hinder overall height appearance? As far as I can tell, the car is still on the factory shocks as well (car currently on 108K). I'm half debating going for 20-30mm lowering springs anyway but I'm holding back for now just incase another suspension component could be at fault. The overall feel & ride while driving still feels as it should (no knocks, bangs etc.).

I'll get a photo up of the car to give a better idea tomorrow as well.

Thank you and thanks for the response. Yep I've read that the GT's came 15mm factory lowered. When I digged out the previous invoice that stated that the front springs were replaced from back in 2013, the part number listed on it does tally up with supposedly the correct "GT" spec Sachs springs on the CP4L (Euro Car Parts) website which leaves me a bit stumped.

I may just go ahead with lowering on the Eibach Pro spring kit but I don't want to lower too much, I understand these are only 30mm so am I right thinking that the car won't look much lower than stock? I reckon if anything going by how it looks at the moment, only the front will be much more noticeable.

My car sat low on the rear I used to get the ocassional flash. It also used to bottom out on some speed bumps. I measured the ride height and confirmed a broken spring. Changed both and now sits higher and now has even ride height front to rear

I got under the car to check out the existing rear springs the other day and no cracks or splits are present as far as I can see (though sometimes they are not noticeable until the spring has been removed).

I'm now set of purchasing the Eibach Pro kit and going on from there.

Just wanted to stop by to mention that I had the Eibach Pro kit fitted on my GT TDI yesterday and I'm over the moon with the ride height so far, time will tell though in the meantime as it still needs a good couple of weeks for it to settle properly but there is definitely a noticeable drop on the front. The rear looks to be ever so slightly higher than before but only by a couple of millimetres but overall, it's exactly how I wanted it to be.

I'm amazed at how comfortable the overall ride still is as well (as people mention), ever so slightly stiffer over bumps if anything but barely noticeable.
