Is my flywheel on my GT TDI 170 DSG the cause of my problems?
« on: September 17, 2017, 05:14:57 pm »
Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on  a few issues im having please. I recently purchased a GT TDI 170 DSG and I love it. When purchasing I was made aware by the previous owner that the car has a rattle from the engine bay and when you apply full throttle it jerks almost as if the revs are stopping and then catching again. It also seems to struggle to get moving in gears and a fair amount of gas is required.

Issues are present in auto and manual modes. It is remapped and has a DPF delete. I have done a DSG reset via vagcom but this did not fix the issue. Before spending over 1k for a new flywheel, i just wanted to know if anyone else has ever had similar symptoms and has a new flywheel resolved it? If not, what did you guys replace to fix the issue?

Thanks in advance

While you had it hooked up to the vagcom, did you check out the injector / compression levels as well by any chance? If not it's worth a shot to get these ironed out as well to be on the safe side - my old MK4 GT TDI came with a misfire like fault where it would judder instantly as soon as you pressed hard on the throttle and the car was only drivable below 2000rpm.

After sending it to a diesel specialist and having all four injectors removed, tested & cleaned which didn't fix it, it turned out to be the tandem fuel pump which was on it's last legs.

Thanks for the response mate. No errors came up when i scanned the car. Didn't check compression etc but I can do that, the only issue is that i have no idea what to look out for or even how to get the vagcom to the right screen to show what Im looking for. Any further help will genuinely be appreciated.

No worries mate.

It's been a while since I've used a vagcom but there is a section on there which allows you to monitor various live readings while the car is running, and the injector & compression have to fall under a certain value (Google will document this).

Also do you have evidence of what map was put on the car and who by? If not then it may be worth investigating as the map itself could also be the problem behind this.

Just tried to look for misfires using vagcom. Watched a tutorial where they suggest the count in group 024 on the software should be 0 in all cylinders. As soon as i start the car the count on all cylinders shoots up to around 800. Im assuming this means misfires present and im assuming as a result of this, all the injectors and loom will need to be replaced? If you could help anymore it would be highly appreciated. Thanks again.

that does nt sound like a flywheel problem to me as my flywheel went and it didnt have those symptoms besides the rattling and when it really did go it kept going for about 5 seconds when the car was turned off
