MK5 GT TDI 170 DSG REMAPPED MISFIRING UNDER LOAD
« on: September 23, 2017, 05:32:43 pm »
Hi guys, id like to start by saying that any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Bought my GT TDI 170 DSG a week ago which has had the DPF removed and was mapped 4 years ago and is running approx 228BHP. When you put your foot down the car jerks and misfires. Building revs slowly results in no misfire. Cold starts feel as if the engine is about to fall out as it shakes so much on start up and there is a rattling sound from the engine bay which sounds like flywheel. Vagcom shows misfire in all cylinders on start up.

Have been to 2 mechanics, both advise different things. One mechanic claims flywheel needs replacing, another has suggested a new gearbox should be fitted as he says the current one is leaking but personally i cannot see any leaks from the box. I myself thought the issue would be injectors needing an ultrasonic clean and refit, however VW replaced all 4 injectors and loom 5 years ago as a part of their recall so I dont know if this will be the issue. I replaced the fuel filter which made no difference.

Can anyone whose faced similar issues please try to shed some light as its becoming very frustrating living with the car. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like two separate problems.

Misfire sounds like a fuelling problem so injectors or maybe a problem with one of the fuel pumps?

Flywheel/clutch thing sounds like a different problem, are the engine mounts ok? I noticed that putting the insert into the dogbone gearbox mount really stopped a lot of the engine movement.

Sorry I can't really be more help other than confirm thoughts you've already had about it...

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Your symptoms sound very similar to what I had with my old MK4 TDI, if you attempted to put your foot down or go over 2000rpm the car would shake and feel like it's bouncing up & down - get it checked out with a diesel / VAG specialist. In my case it turned out to be a knackered tandem fuel pump.
