remote central locking not working
« on: May 17, 2015, 11:37:41 pm »
Hi guys

I wonder if anyone can help please!!

I have a MK5 golf, the remote central locking won't let me UNLOCK the doors, but it does let me LOCK the doors.
I have to use the key to insert it into the drivers door and open the door manually and then sometimes the alarm goes off immediately so I have to insert the key in the ignition and then the alarm stops.

I have tried the spare key which has never been used and I have the same issue.

I have tried changing the battery and still same issue with a new battery. I have also noticed the little light on the key does not light up.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!

In most cases it is the drivers side door lock mechanism (dry solider joints) but before you start spending out on replacement parts I would suggest getting your car scanned by a member with VCDS. The VCDS register can be found here - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,88875.0.html

If the light on the key fob does not light up, that usually means that there is insufficient voltage in the battery.
When you changed the battery, did you put in a known make from fresh stock? Some of the cheaper brands from ebay, pound shops and the like are very dubious quality! Some even show the correct voltage when 'resting' but when under even a light load drop massively.
It may be worth trying a good (more expensive!) battery.
The symptoms you describe sound like a duff battery.
Also, clean the contacts in the fob before you replace.
