the brake has been squealing for a while so thought I would take a look...turns out the piston is seized as the dust cover is missing

The squealing - is it when you're coming on and off the pedal, and goes away with heavier braking? If so, that's what's happening with one of my mk7 PP calipers. I've had a suspicion for a while that one was very slightly 'grabbing', like it's a slow piston or something.

Are you tackling it yourself or sending the calipers of for rebuild/refurb? If so, let me know who you use and how you get on

it's squealing when you are slowing down at junctions etc...I have ordered a caliper through work and think it costs £60 through work and hopefully sort it next week

That's not a bad price. Wonder what a new mk7 PP caliper would be...

One of my calipers is making the same noise also.  Standard 312s.  Sticking/seized piston makes sense as I've noticed the pedal feel is quite variable. Sometimes very strong, sometimes not so strong.
