Mk5 GTI DSG -05 reg, 47K, Cambelt change?

Getting my Mk5 Golf GTI serviced next week. Spoke with the garage about the cambelt and have read a few old threads on this - yep it's an old car now at 05 reg, but it's low mileage at 47K ;-). Not sure what I need to do, the garage talked of getting it checked/changed every 6-7 years and there was mention of different changing intervals on other threads and 120K was mentioned in some and 4 years in others.

Have some questions, please... Do I need it changed or just checked over at 47K miles? Is it easy for them to check if it needs changing? If it needs changing, should I get the water pump changed at the same time? Anything else I need to think about - not got loads of money at present but don't want to be foolish...

Cam belt and water pump should be changed every 3-4 years or 40,000miles.......I suggest you get it done dispite the low mileage

As Amanda says its every 4 years or (I thought) 60k whatever is soonest, do you not know when it was last changed? If you dont know the history just get it done, its not worth the risk IMO also yes water pump should be done at the same time, the kit is available from VW/TPS.

Thanks I will get them both done! I'm also having to top up the coolant more often than I would have thought I need to - thermostat too I think.
