Golf mk5 gti oil level light won’t go off

Topped my mk5 gti golfs oil up as it was low and the oil light won’t go off? How do you do this?

When you get the oil low warning, opening and closing the bonnet should take the light off, so I would say faulty bonnet catch!!!

you have to drive atleast 80km or so! and it will go away

mines take a while to off if the light comes on and i top it up roughly about 80km as previously posted

While the car is idling, try your front window wipers, if they don't work, it points towards a faulty bonnet catch switch.

The wipers will work when driving through.

As you look at the bonnet catch, slightly off to the left, the bonnet catch switch connects to the car loom. Try disconnecting it, this will make the car think the bonnet is closed. Cycle the ignition, start the car, oil light should go out and wipers will work.

If it is the switch, check for breaks in the wire, try cleaning up the Connections and the bonnet catch.

Can confirm as others have posted if the oil light comes on, top it up and after maybe 40 or so miles it goes off. The ding everytime I turn the car on makes my jump though aha

Had the same problem with mine, tried all sorts and in the end it was the bonnet catch, one wire was broken so it wasn't seeing that i'd opened the bonnet, you'll know as the light on the dash showing your bonnet open won't be lit up, just cut the other wire and twist them together, turn over the engine for a few seconds and your oil light will go out, then untwist the wires and make them safe or cut them short and do without the sensor, it worked for me
