Sure was. We have been fortunate and have travelled extensively seeing some truly breath taking places, however Mauna Kea is going to take some beating. It takes about 4 hours to get to the summit at circa 16k feet up a three stage gravel road in a 4WD coach. When you reach the summit the air is thin enough to make even getting out of the coach a struggle. I stupidly crouched down to set up my tripod, stood up too quickly and had the monster of all head rushes.

The experience was Cold, euphoric, humbling and emotional!

We spent some time lower down (about 10k feet) star gazing, eating hotdogs and drinking hot chocolate which was the best way to end the day.

Going back to Canada. We spent two weeks just outside of Toronto. Location wasn't brilliant (Burlington) but it was just a base really so didn't mind too much. Next year, we are heading over to Calgary/Edmonton to spend a couple of week with friends. Literally can't wait!

Sounds like a fantastic adventure. I imagine the star gazing was pretty impressive. We spent a week in the Rockies for our second week. First night was clear so went out for a look. First time I have ever seen the milky way. Clear as a bell with the naked eye.

Our first week was in Vancouver. Looking at heading back next year sometime and seeing some other places. Not sure where yet though.

We have friends in Calgary so try and visit them every couple of years. Last time we visited them, we spent 10 days in Vancouver then drove from Whistler to Calgary stopping for a couple of nights at Salmon Arm and Banff. The drive is about 800miles along TC route 1 and is nice and chilled. The trans Canadian motorway is between 3-5 lanes is mostly empty during the summer months :)

Yeah we did a fair bit of driving. First week based in Vancouver and drove over to the island. Second week flew into Calgary then drove to Emerald Lake near Field. Was up and down the highway all week. East to Golden, West to Banff etc and did the Icefields Parkway and Bow Valley Parkway. The road through to Kootenay was spectacular. Looking forward to visiting again. If you haven't done it, we came back from Canmore to Calgary via the 1A. It runs parallel to the 1 and is alot more scenic.

Spent two weeks in British Columbia a few years back in the October and the views were incredible. Few tourists also as it was in between summer and winter. Banff, jasper, whistler etc are amazing places. Try magpie and stumps Mexican cantina in Banff, very authentic Mexican food

Also spent three weeks touring Hawaii, another spectacular location. We waited until we got to Waikiki before booking excursions and found a local place that was great.

East coast Australia is also amazing.

Did all this before kids came along and life got all serious. Would love to go back again in years to come

Travel as much as you can as we are only on this amazing planet once

We did indeed. It wasn't as clear a day as yours though but still a stunning lake. We did the Columbia Icefield, Peyto Lake, Two Jack Lake, Lake Minnewanka and various other places. Was a fantastic trip.
