Upgrading shocks

I am currently running H&R -30mm springs on standard shocks and I’m looking to upgrade the shocks now, is anyone running on bilstein b8 shocks with h&r springs? Any issues?

yeah b8 will be fine. You have the option to go with the mk5 part (stiffer) or mk6 part (softer) as they changed the damping between the two... both will fit.

I'm running Mk5 B8s on my '05 GTI DSG in conjunction with VWR springs and RS3 top mounts (complimented but S3 alloy wishbones and S3/Passat alloy hubs).  Personally I'm very happy with the ride as whilst firmer than the past-its-best original components, I find the damping is consistent and well controlled.

OEM+ 2005 GTI DSG (high factory standard spec and upgraded with S3 alloy hubs, S3 alloy wishbones, Bilstein B8s and VWR springs by my own hands) owned since 2008 and still loving it!

Bilstein fatties are certainly great for consistency.   It always bugged me with other dampers how their performance varied through the seasons.

I'm not stating that as fact (forum chat is great for misinfo) but it's worth researching if you're aiming to get hold of one of the two specifically.

I have a friend who got B8 late 2016 or early this year and he told me that the part number is the same for both mk5 and mk6. :wink:

I went for the Koni Sport dampers and I can't complain with the ride comfort with H&R -30 mm. The B8 are a bit stiffer.

Yep the MK5 B8 was dropped and now uses the MK6 part no.  It was part of my researching before I eventually settled on the VWR kit, and then the Ohlins.  I looked into MANY options but having had B8s in the past, I wanted something more forgiving over high speed impacts.
