Cam chain tools

Hello just wondering has any one on here got the cam chain timing tools(preferably genuine) that I could borrow for a fee.
Ive got everything to change my cam chain but the tools,and there not cheap.

I have the camshaft alignment tool not genuine but made by laser. Problem is looks like you are in Northampton and I am in Derby so about 3hr round trip.

You will need this tool to take off the variable adjuster and it's probably a good idea to get a new bolt from VW or TPS. VW tool T40080

If your old chain is still attached you could just make alignment marks.

    (I don't like the guy as he talks a lot of BS and his videos go on way too long but this video could help you)

Greetings! I'm new to the forum as you probably guessed by my post count.

Over the weekend I attempted to replace the chain and tensioner having read the very handy guide on this forum. All was going well until i came to remove the adjuster bolt. I couldn't make my mind up if to use a breaker bar or the airline (as suggested somewhere else on the forum). In the end opted for the airline to try and shock it off. Luckily I haven't rounded the bolt off, but i did shatter the laser tools T40080 'equivalent' tool.

Today I went into VW to try and order a proper T40080 tool and they wouldn't sell me one - only available to their own workshop they tell me! 

I've ordered another laser one to try with a breaker bar.

I used the alignment tool(had to as the chain snapped) but why would making alignment marks not work? If I was doing it this way I would also mark a tooth on each sprocket and count the teeth between. I used this method when fitting a new cambelt. I made marks on the old belt and then copied the marks on to the new belt.

I am not saying it can't work. I would just advise anyone doing this to ignore that video and do it the correct way with the proper tools.

That is the official stance from VW, but if you get on well with the parts people, some of them will bend the rules for you.

Even the OEM tool is not designed to be used with an impact wrench

Hmm did you manage to get them from TPS? There's one near me, wish I knew that was an option!

My second Laser Tools OEM T40080 'equivalent' has arrived today, so expect me to report back shortly to say I've rounded the bolt out.
