MK7 clubsport steering wheel in MK5?
« on: October 22, 2017, 03:20:40 pm »
So I have the module that allows me to fit and control MK7 MFSW in older cars - in my case my mk5 57 plate gti.

Now I'm the hunt for a clubsport dsg steering wheel, do I need to get a particular one, or would any one be fine to fully operate in my mk5.

I've seen this one: https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-7-GTI-CLUBSPORT-ALCANTARA-STEERING-WHEEL-LENKRAD-ROTEN-NAHTE-DSG-NEU/322530332093

I would still like to have cruise control on my mk5, I see most of the mk7 clubsport steering wheels have adaptive cruise control will that be a problem?

Firstly at €875, I'd just buy a normal GTI DSG steering wheel for £300 and get it recovered for £120 odd, and cruise control can work on them through specialist coding (Alex Retro does it in England) but for the most part you can't get it working from the steering wheel. I think you can just keep using it from the stalk though.

If you bought the controller board off Alex today congrats!
Secondly you can get regular cruise control working on the wheel as far as I know it just doesn't do adaptive.
I too am on the hunt for a new steering wheel, though finding a GT badged mk7 DSG paddle MSFW is a nightmare.

Yes Alex is local to me, the mk5 steering wheel looks it age now, I really prefer and like the gti clubsport steering wheel.

I was one of them indeed! Reading threads from a couple months saying it was no longer possible was a real downer, didn't want to take any risk and miss out on what was needed to get it all working.. I just wasn't expecting to pay what I did for it though eeeek!!

That's good news, when I get some extra cash to spare I'll get the clubsport steering wheel, can't wait!

P.s any particular reason why your only settling for that steering wheel?

I bought two of the four so I feel blessed myself... :signLOL: well before I looked at my bank account.

Because I have a Golf GT and it feels a bit silly to get a R/GTI wheel, I'd potentially settle for the GTD badged one as they're more common... I've heard it's easy to switch the silver name badge strip at the bottom of the wheel but I've not seen spares so no matter how easy it is if I can't source the part it's a bit naff.

Haha good going there with the two! All I know is I will be eating very basic up until Christmas now which I guess, is a good thing as my waist line could do with 'modifying' hehe!

Yeah I see what you mean. I've looked on the historic "completed" and "sold" listings for the particular GT steering wheel your after and there has been hardly any! I would look into getting an GTI/R one whereby if you the badge strip can come off and be replaced with a GT badge which looks authentic you've pretty much got the wheel your after!

Yeah the plan is to just rock a GTI wheel until I can get the GT name replaced, it feels very wrong to have a petrol car wheel in a car so proudly killing nature.
