Engine...
« on: October 26, 2017, 08:10:26 pm »
Just need some info if anyone can help. I have a 2007 GTi with BWA engine and have been offered a complete low mileage CJX 2014 Golf R engine. Will this drop straight into my MK5 or will mods need to be made?

Thanks in advance.

Its a totally different generation of car..... Far from a straight swap and certainly not worth the hassle unless you're planning a serious engine build.......

Cheers guys. I will replace with a CDL engine. Any recommendations as to who supplies and fits these engines? I’m based in Leicester but don’t mind travelling

Not sure you'll find many suppliers of used engines, onus would more than likely be on you.

AKS Tuning aren't too far away and will do a good job fitting an engine

Are you swapping to a CDL for any particular reason? Big turbo plans for example?

@Dan_FR yeah I want to fit the KO4 turbo and want more bhp but the current engine is pushing 120k well that’s what it says but from the sound and look of it I believe it’s much more. From what the mechanic I use said current engine will need a fair bit of work doing as we both don’t think the previous owners have done what the service book stamps say.

CDL or BYD is a good choice.  There's a brand new KO4 turbo for sale on here as well, so a couple of options.

Have you compression tested your BWA?  120K is nothing if it's been looked after.  Mine's on that and still showing 14 bar across all the cylinders.  If yours is really low, chewing oil, kicking out blue smoke and sounds like a box of bolts rolling down a flight of concrete steps......then yeah.....bin it off for a KO4 engine!

@Pudding cheers for the info and it sounds similar to a box of nails, smokes a lot on start up in the mornings and drinks oil like it’s on a bender lol. But I’ve heard the CDL engines are much stronger and powerful than the BWA?

If you're not already sorted, as mentioned try Alex at AKS Tuning.  He did an engine swap for me from AXX to BYD a couple of years back.  Very thorough and transformed the car  :driver:

No, I sorced virtually everything for the engine swap.  Left the car with him on a Saturday and picked it up the following weekend, transformed the car.  Have a look at my build thread if you get 5.
