When sitting the shock back into the hub does it drop to a certain point before you tighten it up. Like will only drop so far, or do you put the shock flush to the bottom of the hub and then tighten it.

The fronts are what you are questioning, yes? Then yes, you spread the lower strut mount on the knucle (for removal as well as for re-installment) and slide the strut all the way down after you've secured the upper strut mount at the top. There's a lower tab on the bottom of the strut tube with a hole(or hook-type tab) in it, you'll notice when you remove the struts, that goes into the knuckle slot and aligns to the lower strut bolt. I believe there is a stop that's cast into the knuckle at the lower end of its strut cylinder...you'll feel the strut stop as it hits that stop.

...you can use a chisel as well.

There's a lip at the bottom of the hole that the strut should stop against before inserting the bolt and tightening it back up. The lip prevents you sliding the strut down too far, if you spread the hub apart far enough it should be quite easy to slide the strut in and down to its stop.

Perfect guys thanks that what I was thinking. One last thing if a spring was installed upside down would it affect the height. E.g higher lower

Don't believe you can install them upside down as the coil's diameters may differ from top to bottom. I think the upper spring perch is larger diameter, as it is the same diameter of the upper strut bearing...and the lower perch is more the diameter of the shock tube. I could be incorrect...and it doesn't matter one way or the other. Ride height would only be affected if the spring's coils sat differently on the lower perch when upside down.

Are springs any different between mk6 gti and mk5 gti also do dcc springs differ.

Without having first-hand experience...I think you should look at some Golf R Forums here. I've read the VWR springs are made to run with DCC and you'd want to stay away from progressive/variable rate springs. Springs for a mk6 GTI should fit the mk5...mk7 to mk5, no.

I was on h&r springs to low for me in London.
Changed to kw springs 20/20 raised the back hardly raised the front at all.
So now I’m thinking of going back to standard springs..

I'm in the heart of London so going to expect the same issues as the humps here are super huge  :doh: having said that did you replace the shocks as my TT was 40mm dropped with a votex front over bumper spoiler and a LCR splitter and it did catch but was liveable  :smiley:

No didn’t replace my shocks still on originals. I have dcc suspension and want to keep it, new shocks from dealer £1000

I have the H&R comfort suspension kit and thinking because my oem are most likely shot these will be fine and I won't scrape as much as they're not battered or old!!!
