Temperature gauge again ...

Appreciate this topic has already been covered before however after changing rear abs sensor and hub ive notice the car doesn't get and stay at 90deg c ... drops off when in main roads / motorway . this happened in my mk4 and simple thermostat fixed the job however understand there is 2 temp sensors in the mk5.
Is there an actual thermostat in the mk5 or is it an electrically controlled until for regulating temperature... ?

I'm guessing the sensor which is linked to the gauge in the dash is ok and it's the main temp sender in the main housing (under the alternator) as my fuel economy has dropped as well at moment ...

What's the cost of these temp sensors / units and likely install time ?

The part is less than £40 - buy genuine cause it's awkward to do and three hours if all goes well and you have a M5 tripple square for two of the fixings.

Is it the same temp sender for both the main coolant unit and sensor associated with gauge on dash ?

Just had main and in-line done on my gti, my car wasn’t getting to even 70 degrees on a 11 mile drivetrain work. Cars up to 90 in around 2 miles now. Cost me £206 for both genuine parts, new fluid and labour

£200!!! Jesus Christ, had new tyres on today so I’m up to £1500 I’ve spent the first month of owning it before I even start adding up the shiny bits!

Genuine coolant temp sensor is 40 quid on it's own.  Genuine main thermostat is around £35 iirc, plus the second stat, sundries, coolant etc.....and the utter ball ache of getting to the main thermostat.......£200 isn't a great deal.
