Any ideas?
« on: December 05, 2017, 10:29:02 pm »
Hi anyone got any good ideas how to make your own heat shield for the ramair cone? I heard you can buy heat shields in your nearest hardware store? Can anyone steer me into the right direction of how to make one of these?

I also need extended hose so the ramair filter cone can reach the very edge of the car in the engine bay and so I can face it down also rather than leave it sitting close to the battery.. I feel it could do with more clearance here and SHOULD reach further as air intake is sometimes lagging.. any ideas on an extended hose?

Get some aluminum sheet, measure it all up, plan out how you're going to bend and cut it, drill mounting holes. then give it a try.

Thank buddy! Going to get some was thinking to get acrylic Perspex but now will settle for Aluminuim with shiny head guard thermal and rubber tip surrounds.

Do you know exact measurements for the shell? Approximately ? So I can trace the shape and then do any adjustments where needed?

Thanks in advance 😄

Bought an Aluminium sheet at Wicks 50cmx25cm

Seems that’s the size I need to work with

Need some measurements

I'd make a template from cardboard first, will make it easier than trying with sheet metal

Good luck. yeh make a cardboard one first, then you can lay it out on the aluminium and mark it up. You'll be able to cut it with a jigsaw and a fine tooth blade, then use a 90degree edge to bend the material. providing it's not too thick it should be pretty easy to work with.

Post some pics and let us know how you get on

Thanks for your advice here. I appreciate it. The sheet is quite thin not too thick. I am getting a friend to help out and drill the hole. Also will be using some heatproof thermal on the inside and the rubber trims on the edges - to avoid cutting fingers. I’m also thinking of spraying it Matt black with a heatproof stove spray paint.
