The best Speaker system upgrade for a 3-dr MK5 GTI
GTi-Tecnix:
Hi all. I’ve been wanting to upgrade the 3-way speaker system in my car as the factory ones are can deteriorate after time. Yes they are decent speakers but they are lacking a decent bass delivery in the sound management 3-way. I want to increase bass and clarity without a subwoofer in the boot as I’m now considering upgrading these speakers in my car. I notice that my front speakers have a 3-way composition with tops, mids and bass. Does anyone know the actual size of the lower speaker on the front doors? And also the size of speakers in the rear?
So far I’ve noticed the following options I can go for:
1. Hertz Energy ESK163L.5 - 3 Way Component System 375W
This comes with a bass, mid speakers and tweeter- complete 3 way sound. Would the mid speaker fit my car?
2.The Focal IFVW is an upgrade to factory speakers for a MK6 golf but will it fit a MK5 golf? These are 6.5” speakers so I will need spacers I imagine.
If I go for two way components in front so I compromise the mids or does the amplifier deal with this issue?
Does anyone have a better understanding of what is the best option or any other suggestions?
What is the best option for me to upgrade please?
Do I require an amplifier to avoid distortion with these speakers as these are 2-way not 3-way?
What is the best 4ch amplifier ?

You’ll need a decent amp, so I’d try getting the amp first (on OEM speakers) and you might be pleasantly surprised how they sound.
JL XD amps are good bang for the buck
I have a XD500 3 channel powering OEM front speakers and a JL 10” W0 sub in a “kustom” enclosure in the boot...sounds great!

The 10” sub.. how did you customise yours as I’m not looking to stick a bass box in the rear! Would be interested to hear how I can customise one in my car!

Hertz and Focal are very bass shy in my experience. You might get more responses posting in the MK5 area.
