Thought I'd say hello.
I became a mk5 GTI owner (subsequently my first VW) in mid September. I've come over from a long term ownership with a MK1 Eunos Roadster S Spec which I owned and loved for 9 years and only ever needed to do regular maintenance.
However I thought it was time for something practical yet still fun. I was originally after an e46 330... Which turned into a hunt for an e90 330. I wasn't too happy with anything I saw or the general state of the 2nd hand market, and ultimately decided to look else where. I felt the BMWs were either over priced and poorly maintained or had 8000 owners.
After a (long) few months of searching, I decided to look at mk5s as I had secretly loved them.
After a couple of weeks I had found a cherished 2 owner car which had been serviced on time at VW incl waterpump and cambelt.
So I've been the owner of an 07 Silver 3dr GTI on 17" monzas (17s were a requirement).
It had 71k on it when I bought it. The only niggle was that the driver side bolster has started to go ( will get it sorted by a professional).
This Xmas, I've had the cam follower done (even though the previous owner had it done and had the old part to show me). Latest revision pcv and an oil change with Miller's nanodrive oil. At the same time I've had OE front bushes changed for oe items, and some Michelin PS4s fitted (and an alignment).
Genuinely loving the car and VW ownership. Plans are to keep her clean and just keep up with regular maintenance and sort that bolster out.
