Hi all,
I'm thinking of a trip over to Belfast - mainly because of a childhood interest that I have had in the Titanic, so am obviously wanting to go to the museum and I ideally want to stay in the Titanic hotel (which was the Harland and Wolff HQ).
I reckon it deserves a couple of days to do it justice - so, aside from the museum - have any of you been? Any recommendations?
Cheers,
Dave
Titanic was always a favourite of my little brother's growing up. I took a trip to the Titanic museum a year and a half ago and really enjoyed it. Felt that it was extensive enough and was detailed enough. Before going I'd imagined they would be beating a dead horse, but it was better than expected.
Had my work's Christmas dinner at the Titanic Hotel this year (alongside a table designated "Game of Thrones" but I don't think it was the high-flying cast unfortunately) and I found the place to be very swish. A few of the staff stayed overnight and enjoyed it.
If you like drinking, then there are loads of nicely furbished pubs and restaurants that you can hop between with ease in the city centre.
The Ulster Museum (not to be confused with the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum as
@coolhandluke suggests) is very good and delves into the history of Northern Ireland and Ireland as a whole very well, if that's your cup of tea.
Outside of the city centre, in reality you'd need a car rental to get anywhere good. As said, the Causeway Coastal route is fantastic. It's pretty much the road I ran as a 20 year old something on my GSXR 750. A lot of twisty corners with great sights.
Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge is meant to be fun (I've yet to go!).
Giant's Causeway itself for me was okay (yes, it's interesting to see the hexagonal rock formation, but I don't think it should be our focal point).
There's a walk called Gobbins Cliff Path. It's meant to be good.
There are other things to do like Peace Wall Tours and the like, but haven't been on one to recommend one!
@Rossimac should we tell him about the great land of Lurgan?
Jesus, I hacked the RNS' maps to never direct me through Lurgan...
Anyway, if you're up for it, I'm sure a couple of us would gladly meet up when you get here :)
