Anyone drives with 312mm front discs on a 17'' rims?
« on: January 07, 2018, 01:33:54 pm »
Hi guys.
Anyone here drives with a 312mm disc on 17'' rims?

Would be great with some pictures of it :) Can't decide if I should buy new rims in 17'' instead on 18s

These were my BBS CO 17's (17x7.5 ET47) with Porsche Boxster calipers and GTI 312mm Brembo Max front disks on the front.

Reluctantly sold them as it was just millimetres from the caliper and didn't want spacers (couldn't find decent hubcentric spacers below 5mm). :sad1:

Currently running some cheap but mint 17" Tiguan wheels (yes a Tiguan) on my GTI for the time being as I didn't fancy ditching my recently purchased 225/45/17 Michelin PS4's. A bit more sober compared to my BBS' but it does have plenty of clearance from my Porsche calipers (New Orleans 17x7 ET 43).

Hey Patchy - Thanks alot for the reply!

Did you ever ride with 18'' on your golf before? To compare the 17'' vs 18'' ride comfort :)

I have actually - 18" R32 Zolder reps that came with the car when I got it.

It's a bit firmer than the 17's but not unbearably bad. 18's do look more nicer to look at but factoring cost of tyres and a slightly better ride from the thicker sidewall profile made me switch down, especially where I live where there are loads of speed bumps and deep pot holes to negotiate. :fighting:

312 is standard on Gti's isn't it? Regardless of 17 or 18 alloys...
Or have I misunderstood the topic...

Yeah 312mm is the standard front disc size for the MK5 GTI and the 170BHP GT Sport.

312 is standard but mine's a 2,0TDI.

Just needed some pictures to see how much the 312 disc fills up the 17'' rims so that I can take into my consideration whether I should go with 17'' rims - Porsche 986/987 calipers and 312mm disc or 18'' rims - Porsche 996T calipers and 350mm discs :)
