Car looks great so far

All the best with it. I'll keep an eye out for update and see what you do with those 18" Detroit's 😉

I'm from Dublin myself.

Thank you! Likewise, I'll keep an eye out. I can certainly see myself removing them for some lightweight wheels for track use in the future. If I'll sell them or not is the next question. I'll defo drop you a DM if I decide to sell. Find me a perfect set of VW Motorsport 18's and I may be persuaded

Well this happened on Friday

So the standard RCD300 is fairly useless when it comes to in-car entertainment and although the previous owner had installed a bluetooth handsfree kit, it just wasnt up to the standard of headunit I had in my old E90. I work part-time as a cycle mechanic in Halfords while i'm studying so when the same headunit came up cheap (discontinued sale), I just impulse bought it.
The headunit is Pioneer SPH DA-120 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, bluetooth, video streaming, the whole works. Cant recommend this headunit enough.

Initially I had the headunit fitted with an Autoleads fascia. These are cheap fascias and the quality, look and finish reflect that. Unhappy with it, I had a chat with one of the lads in work this morning and he informed me of a Connects2 fascia he had going spare. So I swapped them on my lunchbreak and couldnt be happier. The finish is pretty much factory OEM. Like it should be.

Please excuse the smudge marks!

So that's alot of my initial plans for the GTI sorted. For Dubshed (April '18)  I plan to do some bodystyling and get it re-mapped. I've made a little list to remind myself what need's doing.

Vortex front splitter
Maxton designs spoiler extension
GTI smoothened grille
DEPO R32 style projectors
Replace all interior bulbs with LED's
12mm spacers up front and 15mm rears
Resonator delete
Forge silicone water/coolant hose kit

More to come as always!

Lots of changes to my GTI over the last month. It started with a full clean inside and out.

Then I got some spacers 10mm front and 12mm rear to step the wheels out slightly and give it some more aggression.

I then bought a set of projector headlights on ebay. These turned out to be utter s**t and I sold them two days later, thankfully for exatly what I paid. The eBay seller refused to issue me a return so after a Paypal dispute, I was glad to get my money back. Would strongly recommend against anyone buying these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK5-R32-Style-Headlights-GTI-GT-TDI-FSI-UK-Stock-2003-2009/173025784759?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144

So with my money back, I went on eBay again and ordered a set of the tried and tested DEPO's and havent looked back. Delighted with them.

I also ordered an Edition 30 splitter and had that sprayed to match the car, this was then mated to a TRC splitter and all mounted up the other day. I also got the US indicator running light function activated to 35%.

Next up was to get it ready for mapping. The car is booked into well known Irish tuner Joe Power on Monday so I needed to sort some noise and air flow before then.

I got an exhaust with resonator delete and fitted that on my back on axle stands on the drive  While at it, I removed the downpipe and knocked out the pre-cat.

Then i treated it to a fresh change of Millers Nanodrive and a new filter. Gave the DV, intake etc a check over and shes ready for the rolling road.

Looking forward to seeing what it makes. Hoping for 260hp on 98ron so if I get that, i'll be delighted.

Then its time to sort wheels, suspension and brakes.

Do I go H&R Deep Still Static / fancy wheels or keep it trackday inspired?

Suspension/wheel choice should be based on what do you want to do with the car. For track time an adjustable suspension and a light, strong wheel is key. H&R Deep Still Static is far from ideal. If you're not planning any track time go with whatever looks good.

Yeah thats the dilemma I have at the minute. I'll have to figure out what direction I take the car before suspension/wheel/tyre choice is made.

Little bit of attention to detail on the interior today.

Fitted a pair of paddle extensions to the tiptronic shifters.

Then, to continue the carbon look throughout, I removed and wrapped the silver trim in glossy carbon fibre wrap.

I then decided to let my imagination run and painted the little GTI and DSG emblems red. Turned out nicely!

Hoping to get my steering wheel retrimmed with Royal Steering Wheels in black alcantara with red stitching come the summertime.

Looking forward to giving this a serious 3 stage polish next week in prep for some car events here in Ireland.
