Cruise control not working (mystery)
« on: January 14, 2018, 04:22:36 pm »
I'm having difficulties solving my issue with cruise control which I retro fitted yesterday on my 2005 golf gti, I installed the wire due to the year ,I've got the correct steering wheel control module and slip ring, highline clocks etc I correctly coded it but no green light nothing...
I went on vcds and went on to steering wheel then measuring blocks/ basic settings and selected cruise control it recognises the switch turning on/off and cancel but doesn't actually do anything whilst on the road?
Any ideas gents
Maybe clutch switch or brake switch. There's no fault codes either

Have you checked measuring blocks in VCDS (engine module), it should help pinpoint the issue.

Petrol egines often use Measuring Block group 066 to display CCS info. Refer to the charts below using line Field 2 and 4 data.

You also have coding to do in the engine module if I remember correctly and you make no mention of that?

@doylebros In the engine module it has  long coding and it’s got a box to tick whether it’s got cruise control or not its been ticked ..... so I have no idea why it’s not working

Follow the instructions Jason linked you to as just ticking the box won't work

On newer mk5 golfs it was a tick box on the engine module so that bit is ok. Have you driven around 25mph and then tried flicking the up rocker button with cruise switch in on position?

@RetroRaz I've tried different things and it's still not there
I've double checked everything the wire I installed recoded it two or threes times it's recognises the stalk is there via the basic settings in the steering wheel module seeing the rocker switch change to on and off then cancel but doesn't work on the road
Faulty control module ?

Apologies if you have already looked at this but certain model years don't have an in-cluster 'cruise control on' light and some do.  Have you tried physically setting cruise when driving not just turning it on using the flick switch on the top of the stalk?

For comparison - two Mk5 with factory cruise - mine an 05 GTI DSG has the 'cruise control on' indication light, my Dad's 09 R32 DSG does not have an indication light.  Both systems work fine when setting on the road.

Like I say, you may have covered this off but wanted to flag just in case...
OEM+ 2005 GTI DSG (high factory standard spec and upgraded with S3 alloy hubs, S3 alloy wishbones, Bilstein B8s and VWR springs by my own hands) owned since 2008 and still loving it!

Post up your coding before and after the cruise install and someone may notice an error.

When you turn on does the green cruise control light come on on the dash? Once thats on click the set- the end of the stalk to set the speed you're currently at.

When I first installed mine I didn't think it was working until I discovered that you have to press the set- button

If you've got a standard GTI steering wheel shouldn't the coding value for the wheel be (1) not (0).

@doylebros it originally was 0 ...... so all I've done is change the 1 to 4 to on board computer with cruise control
