Boost pipes leaking at the intercooler
« on: March 07, 2018, 05:40:23 pm »
What’s the best solution for this? I don’t really want to get involved in swapping the intercooler as it’s fine for what I need but I’ve got some reasonable leaks around the bayonet fittings.

Have you tried just adding new ring seals (3C0 145 117 F)?

Not yet, is that part number common for both sides (and both ends)

Thanks :)

I replaced both rings - didn't fix it.

I replaced the pipe with new rings as well for good measure, and while it reduced the amount of oil leaking there, it didn't stop it.

Happy enough with the amount of leak there, but still I wish it was better I guess :)

That's why I fitted a 6R intercooler as it loses the gash O rings.   The cherry on top is getting a handy welder chum to lop off the bayonet fitting from the rigid pipe and replace it with a 2.25" standard rolled edge pipe.  A second cherry on top is fitting a forge turbo muffler delete kit, which bins that bayonet fitting as well.  Kiss goodbye to boost leaks forever  :happy2:

Good info pudding  :happy2:

I ended up putting a small amount of sealant round the the o rings whilst sealing my sump. Certainly improved it as a  temporary job. New o rings didn't make a lot of difference.

Certainly on the K04 pipework, I found engine rock wears out the internal bore of the rigid discharge pipe, so no amount of new O rings will seal that up.
