Afternoon ladies and gents

I'm not right savvy with this stuff but I have a MK5 GTI with the what I think is standard head unit, with a 6 way disc changer under the arm rest. I don't think I have an AUX port anywhere and deffo no USB port. Is there any way of retro fitting a lead to connect an ipod to? I'm aslo assuming with the age of can if I could connect through an AUX cable I'd be doing well.

If your wanting to keep your standard stereo. You could just buy this £24 adaptor which connects to the rear of the stereo, fits in the port where the 6 cd Changer goes in. No USB though, just Aux.

Alternatively get another stereo from eBay. RCD510s are going for about £100. And get the USB and Aux adaptors at £10-15 each. You'll be able to connect your IPod then and will look flush.

Hi, I would recommend an xcarlink sku275, this gizmo plugs into the back of the existing head unit and allows you to keep the functionality of the existing cd changer and play music from sd card/usb stick/ipod and also stream music via optional bluetooth add-on, two presses of the cd changer button and you are away.

That looks like a nice unit, will it just plug and play? Would I need to do anything fancy to use the DAB function?

If your referring to the rcd510. Not sure about the DAB functionality, maybe someone on here can help.

But the unit is plug and play. You might need a fakra adaptor to get the radio to work and you also might need to upgrade your canbus if your cars 2006 and below to stop your battery from draining.

Getting the above might be an easier option if you wanting to keep your stereo. The xcarlink @sugarhillgang1979  suggested.

I didn't know you could add a USB port like that. Can you charge off that too? Also I see the screen has an ipod button. Doee the ipod connect into the USB port or does it have it's own lead? What does Delphi mean? So many questions. Sorry.

Yeah. I connect my iPhone directly to that USB port. It plays the music on my phone as well as plays music through apps like Spotify and Tubidy. Charges my iphone nicely too.

It also has a Bluetooth function on there but I assume you'd have to get a separate Bluetooth module for the Bluetooth to work.  I did the cheap £5 method of just putting a Bluetooth FM Transmitter in the boots 12v port  to stream my music wirelessly. I've started to just use the USB to charge my iPhone. 

Delphi is the make of the RCD510. Two versions were made.  One for the European market and one for the Asian market. Mines an Asian one.

European versions are about £30-40 more than the Delphi. 

I chose the Delphi purely because of the ability to add the USB port instead of having to get that MDI thing for the armrest which I thought would be a hassle to do if I chose to get the Euro version.
