Just thought about it.... I've putted on new MK5 bearings to the Passat hub. - should this be replaced with a new Passat bearing instead? Maybe that's why my rotor is rubbing on the caliper carrier

Passat and Golf bearings are the same, but I put new Golf ones in from the dealer (made by FAG) and had no problems with the carrier/disc alignment.

The only thing I can think of is either the bearing isn't fully seated into the hub, not tightened down sufficiently, or the bearing is wrong.   I assume we're only talking a few mm or so out and it's just rubbing?

Okay.. The bearings have been mounted by another VW mechanic that I had the first deal with to put on all my stuff. So guess they should be okay?

Yeah it's only e few mm, looks like the caliper carrier isn't sitting 100% tight to the hub, think I'll have to grand abit on the carriers to make room so they can be tightened to make the gap disapeer. However the gap I have is no where near enough to make the rotors/discs centered in the carrier?

How much approximately is it out - 3, 5, 10mm?  Have you got the carrier mounted on the right side of the alloy hub lobes?
OEM+ 2005 GTI DSG (high factory standard spec and upgraded with S3 alloy hubs, S3 alloy wishbones, Bilstein B8s and VWR springs by my own hands) owned since 2008 and still loving it!

Think its 5mm or more. Can't remember how much it was... Been sitting in the tattoo chair for aprox 8 hours today so can't really remember anything from yesterday xD Ha!

I have fitted S3/Passat alloy hubs to the front along with wishbones and SALK (now swapped out for Superpro arms and ALK). I fitted them when I upgraded my AP coilovers to KW. Its alot easy to assemble the complete strut+hub and offer it up. I also came across the issue with the longer bolt and nut for the ball joint. Learnt the hardway.







Ive got a set of passat rear alloy hubs to go on over the next week so I will keep you updated. It doesn't appear there will be any fitment issues bar one longer bolt than standard (similar to the fronts due to the required thickness of the hubs compared to steel versions). Ive compared them to a set of steel ones I have laying around and they look slightly wider than standard so that might increase the rear track slightly.
