Engine rattle noise, should I be worried?
« on: January 28, 2018, 07:40:30 pm »
So ive done some reading guys but not sure if this is the chain tensioner issue or not.

It makes this noise intermittently so it isnt always there. Its there at idle but seems to lessen when actually on the move but theres still a whining sound when moving.

It seems like its coming more from the front of the engine?

In second video you can hear in the first 8 seconds its fine then the noise comes in at 9 seconds.

Sound like something rubbing in the 2nd vid have you checked the belt and tenchner?  I'd be inclined to pop it to a garage asap as if the belt snaps your be stranded and if it's the cambelt and that snaps or jumps a cog it's game over

Any good indys in East London?

It has had the belt and all related bit done around 20k miles ago. Other than the noise it runs perfect, no loss of power or anything and like I said doesnt seem to make that noise when moving.

I'll have a look/listen at the vid later pal. Tricky giving a diagnosis this way though. A specialist would be my next port of call.

After watching the second video it's sounding more like timing belt roller or tensioner

Really hard to tell what that is.  Camera phones filter too much of the important frequencies out.  Need to get a stethoscope on it, but bear in mind these engines are a LOT noisier without the engine cover.  Consider a TT-S engine cover.  It's lined with thick foam and will silence a lot of that racket.
