TPS Query
« on: March 09, 2018, 02:35:17 pm »
Hi all , after some advice

Phoned up TPS Halifax to be told I can't order parts, so then phoned TPS Leeds who said I could to get the following:

Drivers Side 5dr Window Trims/ Grab Handle
2 Piece Window Trim / Grab handle for passenger side
Passenger window switch
5dr Drivers Window switches
and a Mk6 Headlight switch

Total for all that is £191 inc VAT. Seems abit steep, surely these bits can be bought for less. ?? What have others payed.

Unfortunately they are 'not allowed' to email me the part no's which is bit strange too.

All sounds very normal to me - They're not supposed to share part numbers, main dealers don't either

Common misconception is that TPS automatically provide discount - they don't - often depends on how big your account is with them or how well you know the guy at the desk. Ring VW and you'll probably come away with a similar price to the above

Did they give you a breakdown for each item? Doubt anyone has bought that specific combination of parts to provide a worthwhile comparison

Thanks Dan, haven't tried phoning VW yet. Was in abit of a rush so didn't really get a breakdown just totals.

I'll give em another call to see what's expensive and what's not.  :happy2:

Still have some steel grey wrap left. So thinking might be worth just getting the buttons / switches and wrapping the grab handles instead of getting them new.

I've wrapped my door sills in steel grey. Thinking the grab handles would look nice in the same wrap. What are people's thoughts

Yeah I fitted ebay (allegedly OEM, but what evs ) MK6 chrome tipped switches in mine for small cash.

As for steep, try owning a Corrado mate.  That list would cost 2 or 3 times what you pay for a MK5!

So rang up VW Leeds just before they shut.

Passenger side window trim £17 for the two pieces
Drivers side 5dr  window trim £15 . So £32ish quid for the trims, that's more in budget. So it was the buttons that were extortionate I'm thinking.

Will get the switches from eBay.

Thank you all  :happy2: :happy2:

This the TPS at Lightcliffe? I've never had a problem buy parts from there, I guess they've changed policy now.

Sounds like your sorted now but i've also had parts from JCT600 VW in the past without problem.

I find MK5 trim pieces very reasonable from VW tbh.  Except the parcel shelf, which is about £400  :stupid:

When I need parts I phone the dealers and get prices then go into TPS and try and get them cheaper but it depends who's on the desk as some of them aren't that helpful but I usually take in a couple of old TPS receipts to show that I've bought stuff before.
It's usually 5-10% discount from memory.

I have called up Leeds TPS a few times and its hit or miss who you get, I had one guy get all arsey with me when I tried to explain that I needed the interior handles and covers and another guy who refused to take the part numbers I had ready telling me they could have been superseded (they wern't)
