Knackered rear springs replaced
« on: March 14, 2018, 07:24:52 pm »
Last Friday one of my rear springs snapped. Took the car yesterday to a VW specialist in London and I was told that both springs were broken. I knew they were rusted because my local VW dealer flagged that up when I did the DSG oil change last summer but told me that I didn't need to change them. My mechanic also said the same when I serviced my car last month, that they were rusted but only needed to change them when they break. So I picked up the car today with brand new rear OEM springs and WOW... what a difference. I bought the car about a year ago and thought the ride was ok but it was not. It was utterly sh*t. I cannot believe that the rusted springs were giving me a horrible ride. Even manouvering the car to park is much better now. The ride is much smoother and going through road imperfections is a million times better. My ride was horrible and I didn't know. Thank god I had to replace the rear springs.

What else will I find out that is on it's last legs and will improve my driving experience once it's replaced? God knows.

I think it's more fresh springs feeling better than old tired ones.  Tbh, I didn't even notice when mine snapped   The bottom pig tail breaks off and hangs around in the trailing arm cup, just chilling.    It's a good idea to replace the top and bottom rubber spring pads as well because they get old and hard, which can also take the edge off the ride quality.

I heard of one of them snapping and I was told that both were broken so I guess the other one was chilling like you said
