Blackened mirror, weird!
« on: March 26, 2018, 09:37:53 pm »
So for three years to the day I have owned my 07 Gti which has been faultless, wife's car off road so hey happy for her to use mine whilst I am off work.
Today she drove home from work and all was well using all mirrors, on getting home and using near side to negotiate driveway the mirror was black!? I got home home around 22.00 so dark outside but yep mirror is dark and feels all warped like it has been baked in the oven. All I can think is that heated mirror has done overtime and cooked glass, anyone anything similar?

Any chance the reflective glass at the back fell off?

Had a brief look this morning think this could be the problem? Teach me to post on the forum before I get facts right, oh and after several 🍻

Well just to confirm, reflective part seems to have fallen off but the main part with the element completely burnt hence the glass dropping off, bit strange guess it’s just a failure of the heated element, new part purchased from gsf and fitted and so far so good.

My glass dropped off a couple of years ago, and bounced down the car taking chips out of the paint in the process.
