K03 ebay turbo / boost pipes

(1/2) > >>

colesey:
Am looking into freer breathing turbo piping to get fitted with a new s3 intercooler. Is anyone here using boost pipes from one of the cheaper ebay sellers? If so, I would appreciate some comments on how well they fit.

Dan_FR:
Waste of time mate. The cheap, non branded eBay ones are for the EA888 TSI engine and don't fit the K03 GTI. The pipes from the likes of Neuspeed and a few others are ridiculously overpriced for what they are and make no difference. There's nothing to be gained anyway as the standard pipework is not restrictive on the K03, stick with the necessary S3 intercooler pipes and leave it at that - put the money toward something worthwhile

colesey:
I quite agree that the branded ones are waay expensive despite looking much the same as the ebay ones.  Good gains were however shown in the dyno test linked below on a revo stage 1 K03 car, the same spec as mine.

That was nearly 10 years ago and I've never seen that kit in circulation. Neither have I seen that claim backed up anywhere else

Money would be a lot better spent elsewhere

I agree with Dan.  I took my forge muffler delete off because they do absolutely nothing, other than deleting the bayonet. I also tried a discharge pipe kit from some brand I can’t remember and again, precisely squat.

People fall into the trap of believing the ‘bigger is better’ marketing hype. The oem pipes are designed to keep the gas speed up. It’s not for deliberate restriction reasons the discharge pipe starts off at a seemingly pathetic ~45mm ID and very gradually increases to ~63mm ID just before the bayonet flare.  Little turbo, little pipes. Big turbo, big pipes

Maybe replace the plastic pancake pipe with the K04 metal pipe?  Does it fit a K03 turbo?
