Reversing light not working
« on: March 28, 2018, 02:37:36 pm »
Hi,  My reversing light appears not to be working.  Swapped bulb/holder  over with fog lamp and works ok that side.  The automatic rear wiper still works so assume gearbox switch is ok?  Not 100% sure what fuse it is as not recorded in handbook and if I google it seem to get different results.  Any ideas how to locate fault. Thanks in advance.

You got off lightly (excuse the pun!) I have just replaced the entire harness in mine due to loosing the boot opening, rear lights and rear wiper!

Few of the other wires are looking a bit dodgy - Looks like I might have more problems in future!! where did you get the wiring and cost and how big job was it. Thanks

Mine were too which is why I just replaced it in the end. I got mine from VW, came to about £90. It's a pretty simple job just quite time consuming. I followed this guide: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=86689.0

My part number was: 1K6971147M so you might want to phone them as it might be different depending on the year and model.

You just have to be careful not to rush it or be too heavy handed else you will risk breaking clips (my pet hate!) Could easily be done in a morning.
