Idle Hunting when warm
« on: March 26, 2018, 01:10:13 pm »
Recently my 2.0 litre FSI Turbo engine started hunting at idle when warm.

Idle speed starts at 800 RPM, rises to 1500, returns to 800, rises to 1500 in a roughly 10 second cycle.

When cold the idle speed is stable.

I could, I suppose replace all sorts of things to attempt to fix it but I'm hoping an expert can be more accurate !

GSF had "no clue" claiming that they only sell parts.

Thanks for your help, John

Most likely the PCV, best bet is to do a search on here or google and you’ll find loads of how to’s on diagnosis and replacement.

Yes sounds like the PCV.

Try removing the oil filler cap and if there is no change to the engine note, then t is faulty.

I think I'm most intrigued by the GSF bit..... Why would they help with a telephone diagnosis? They do only sell car parts... you tell them what you need and they tell you if they have it and give you a price.....

I'm guessing the OP may be of the 'older generation' like me, and can remember when places selling VW parts kind of knew a thing or two about VWs, and would actually help with diagnosis..........but sadly the days of vendors 'helping' customers are long gone.  The car industry is very much 'hands off' now and only in interested in selling as much pattern part garbage as possible.

The only helpful and friendly side to car ownership these days is forums and enthusiast run businesses.

Anyway, yes, it's the PCV.
