RNS 315
« on: April 02, 2018, 09:14:48 am »
Hi, I've recently brought a rns 315, to fit into my mk5 golf gti, it didn't come with any other cables or adaptors. I've already purchased an aerial adaptor, but I've heard their can be battery drain issues. I was wondering if anyone knew how to solve these problems.

You need the latest Canbus Gateway to cure the battery drain problem, any 7N0 907 530 gateways will solve the issue and can be had for around £20 ish though it will need to be coded in using VCDS (VAGCOM). The base canbus harness will plug right into the RNS315 but it will need a GPS antenna (Blue port) fitted for the Navigation to work, if your GTI didn't come with one you will need to retrofit it. Also if it has DAB functionality you will need to install the DAB aerial (black port) for that to work too.

If your GTI didn't come with either GPS or DAB and it has an external aerial the simplest way I can think is to swap it with the Polo aerial (6R0 035 501D) which caters GPS, DAB and FM/AM radio all into one mast and then connect the FAKRA leads into the dash and radio.

Thank you very helpful. Prob a silly question but where would I be able to get the canbus coded?

What way is best to route the extension cables from the back of the radio to the new aerial? Up the Pillar and along the roof?

Hello, I have a rns315 stereo and I've recently fitted mfsw got buttons and control module coded but thing is I had the buttons tested on vcds (vagcom) to show the buttons do work but left side buttons not responding with the stereo (rns315) and right buttons works with highline clocks. Do I need to upgrade the canbus gateway for the stereo by any chance ? If so what canbus gateway I need.
