servicing help

im planning to service my gti myself.

could i get some help with parts? are these correct or people recomment others? anything else other than oil and plugs?

Oil - 5w40 would be preferable for the UK’s temperate climate, especially if the engine has some beefy miles on it.

Filter - OK.

Spark plugs - BKR7EIX

How far do you want to take the service?

HPFP Cam follower, blue seal and bolts.
Fuel filter
Air filter
Cabin filter
Brake fluid flush
Etc
Etc

cheers pudding. i did the cam follower stuff and panel filter in jan so thats ok.

looking at doing oil and filter. plugs, pollen and fuel filter i think for now and maybe brake fulid too

I'd look for Quantum Oil from VW as it'll probably be cheaper and comes in 5l bottles.

It depends how much oil the engine uses.  A heavier weight can reduce consumption.

You can run 5W40 and the Iridium plugs on a standard engine.  The BKR7EIX is the same heat grade as standard. A lot of people find the engine runs smoother with them compared to the OEM double platinums.

Ah I see I need to service mine so think I'll return the spark plugs and get the BKR7EIX, for oil what would you recommend? I bought Millers Oils Nanodrive EE LongLife 5w-30 Full Synthetic Engine Oil on recommendation, what 5W40 would you recommend (standard Ed30) ?

The Millers will do the job  :happy2:   Personally I recommend Mobil1 0W40 or Fuchs Titan Race 5W40.   I've seen how spotless engines running these oils are after 100s of K miles, but as always, frequency of change is more important than brand  :happy2:

Categorically the WRONG advice.  :confused:

Irrespective of climate, the only oil specifically designed for virtually all modern VW Group motors is one meeting a 504.00/507.00 specification.  And that spec is vital in FSI engines.

Categorically WRONG.  The appropriate spec LongLife oil is also mandated for fixed interval servicing.  This was mandated in 2008.  So only more than 10 year old information you are quoting.

Secondly, VW Group now never give an option on viscosity ratings - they are totally irrelevant to a customer, just like the shyte American API ratings.  VW simply create a very tight specification on how the oil has to perform, Castrol went away and created said oil, it got mercilessly tested by VW (and Audi, quattro GmbH, etc) - and the specification was finalised and released.  It just happens that the oil needs to be a 5w30 to meet the required VW standard.  But this is not reciprocal - virtually all other 5w30 brews will fail the VW approval.

Nikki at rtech has probably forgotten more than most of us have ever known.
I take it you must not be from the UK then as is widely known about the oil by everyone i have meet who knows about the tfsi .

You could try useing www.google.com i supplied you the first link but cant be bothered googleing for someone who is so arrogant in his/her replies
