30 edition decat advice needed
« on: April 09, 2018, 09:34:51 pm »
Hi all just picked up my ed30 after selling my M3 (trying to be sensible)

Anyway the guy who sold me it has stuck a revo intake, miltek cat back and a Scorpion decat downpipe on with the intention of remapping it but financial issues struck hence why he sold the car. He did advise me that the eml might come on and it just has.

I’m wondering, would the car be ok running the decat as in would it run rich and lose power ? It still does feel quick even compared the V8 in the m3!  And could I just use a sensor spacer to trick it. Decatted my m3 and used a spacer that worked just fine. I thought about remapping it but I worry the clutch may suffer, it’s on 80k miles. Or do I try to source a standard cat ?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Clutch is a consumable, it is going to need replacing at some point.

Do not use a spacer, the secondary lambda is not only there to check the performance of the catalytic converter. Either get a standard cat or get it mapped - the latter will bring plenty of smiles and will surprise you with the increase in power & capability of the car.  These engines on the standard map feel dull and lifeless. Get it mapped and enjoy it properly

I truly do want to map it but the thought of spending a grand+ to get a new clutch hurts my soul 😂

Where would be the best place to get an updated clutch and or flywheel  and estimate for cost?

Shouldn't cost that much. Get a Helix Organic clutch with an LUK flywheel. I got mine from AKS.

Clutch is good for 400lb/ft apparently. Feels like stock but a bit heavier. It'd be a real shame to go back to a standard cat in your position. The standard cat and downpipe is probably the biggest bottleneck on these cars.

Ah I've deduced you're from Sheffield way, so collection isn't viable as I'm in the south   Up to you if you can be arsed to post it or not, I know it's a ball ache!

Catless doesn't make it change its lambda or air/fuel mixture. Nor does it detect lambda. The 2nd O2 will detect improper cat function and that is where the code will come from. The angled O2 spacer for the 2nd O2 sensor is a hit or miss. Some have added it when catless and still got the code. Because of this I purchased a cheap option on ebay for under $15usd. Figured if it works, great, but if not...not much of a loss. I positioned it to hold the sensor forward and upwards just a bit and never see a code.
