Mighty Car Mods
« on: April 26, 2019, 04:50:59 pm »
Anyone spotted / following the MCM 7R build videos on Youtube?

Basically bolting on this 500hp kit, along with their Revo branded Alcon brake kit - https://www.onlyrevo.com/blog/how-to-get-500hp-from-your-golf-r/

Incredible how easy it is to get 500 brake these days  :surprised:

All of the parts supplied to MCM gratis as well.  Revo must have money to burn

MCM have 3 million subscribers to You Tube, pretty good advertising for Revo eh!

A mate has that turbo and most of the bits they used on his TTS, goes like stink.

Yeah it's good advertising revenue for the sake of a few grand in cost price parts :happy2:

It just amazes me how far technology has come in recent years.  Getting 500 brake from a VW engine 10-15 years ago was a remortgage job.  It's piss easy and relatively cheap now.

Then again, if anyone has seen the Humble Mechanic strip down an EA888 engine.....hmmmm.  The venerable EA113 is a simple tank by comparison.  What the hell is that rubber belt driven water pump all about??

I watched that the other day and I couldn't believe how complex that engine is, I was also amazed about the belt driven water pump, madness.  :stupid:

Yep, that engine looks like it will be a pain in the neck with some years and miles on it.

Have you seen all the JDM vs VW fan boy bickering on MCM's social media about this project?

Not seen it, but be interesting to see how long the motor lasts... seen a few letting go at (or before) the 500 mark now... Not as bullet proof as many believe

Yup.  One or two have let go at 400hp, let alone 500

The internet is a funny place.  A handful of people get away with adding 200+hp to a standard engine for 6-12 months, and that earns it 'bomb proof' status

Show me a 500hp Golf R that's done 100K miles on stock internals, that hasn't been show queened or only driven to and from the shops, then I'll change my mind

It's prone to failure and a b1tch to remove in situ.

I'd bin it personally and fit a Davies Craig electric water pump instead.   The gen 3 EA888 is complicated enough without adding more points of failure like that.
