Edition 30 BYD taping/ticking/diesel noise
« on: May 05, 2018, 09:26:37 pm »
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice if possible.

Once warm the engine on my edition 30 BYD is getting very noisy and can be heard from inside the car.

Today I've replaced cambelt, water pump, camshaft chain and tensioner all with genuine parts. The noise has reduced a little but the engine is still noisy. The old camshaft chain didn't seem to bad either. I didn't however replace the exhaust cam pulley.

The noise seems to be coming top end when listening just above the camshaft cover. Can the the cam pulley itself cause this noise if not adjusting correctly? Other thoughts are a sticky lifter or balance shaft chain but this is at the bottom of the engine. Has anyone had any issues with lifters or balance shaft chain at all??

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Update, low oil pressure warning is now on. Think I may need to remove the sump and check the strainer.

It could be low oil pressure is probably causing the tensioner on the cam chain to not fully tension up the chain. the noise to describe is very much like the cam chain noise.

Like you say check the oil level and pickup
