Undecided - Head vs Heart!
« on: May 04, 2018, 11:04:30 pm »
Evening chaps.

I had a GTI about 6 months ago and had to sell due to work circumstances. However, things are looking better now so will be in the market for another MK5 once i sell my Clio 182.

I am proper undecided between an ED30 and an R32.

Now here is where im struggling. My head is telling me the ED 30 is the better car, looks better, faster in the real world etc. But I had a go in a manual R32 last week and was properly seduced by the noise it made. my god what a noise.

Has anyone had both? I know the ED30 can be tuned to silly numbers relatively cheaply in comparison the the R32, but im not really into modding cars anymore. I will be using the car for commuting, a daily, driving up and down the M61/62 to my parents and back, and for a blast on the great roads Yorkshire has to offer.

So, if anyone has had both I would love to hear your opinions please.

thanks guys.

MH.

I was in the same boat as you the R32 is a cracking car, but as already stated its a bit costly to run and maintain. If you can afford it do it, as you only get one go at life, as far as we know.

I went for a ED30 myself in the end and love it, super smooth and a pleasure to drive and own. Ok it’s not got the R32 sound track, but a Turbo powered engine have a nice sound to them as well

The only difference is I already have a Corrado VR6 with a cracking sound track, so it was a little pointless adding another costly toy.

Early R32's have cheaper tax than the ed30 and standard they have 250bhp over Ed's 230, along with the haldex being able to put the power down, my eddy's great but the R32 is more impressive and well worth the extra cost.

Yeah, if you can afford it go for the R32. You can get more power from the ED30 for not a lot but if you aren't bothering with modifying it then I think the R32 is the better choice.

Cheers for the comments guys. However, I do think i'm swinging more towards an ED30.

Just taken a deposit on my 182, so hopefully I can find the right car soon enough.

If anyone knows of a nice 3dr manual for sale with decent interior spec i'd be interested to hear about it.

Funny reading all of guys saying that you have a high tax etc in the UK :D    Try live in Denmark, and have a car here...  :driver:

Anyway, I would choose the R32 simple of the sound.

The ED30 will be cheaper to upgrade in engine parts if that's you plan? On the R32 you can change a few things but it still haven't a turbo...  :popcornsoda:

Settle at a price and then go check out which models of the 2 you have in mind comes up with leather, xenon and all that :)
