Diverter valve
« on: May 08, 2018, 04:48:12 pm »
Sorry guys, I’m guessing this has been posted 100 times, but I’m new to the forum and only 8 days into ownership of a mk5 gti. I seen someone on another post mention their DV was knackered so they changed it. Is where and tear on these common? I have no idea what they are unfortunately. There is 90k on the gti I’ve just bought so was wondering if I’d need to change it or if it’s just purely a performance mod? Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

yeah the old rubber dv fall to bits its very common.I think the rubber one that fails is the revision D some people change it out for the revision G both are VW parts or there is the (Go Faster Bits)GFB DV+.

i did mine not long ago and i went for the GFB DV+ its fully made out of metal and rock sold.
Because i had the old dv with the rubber and it was ripped to bits i noticed a huge difference.

here is a link so you know what the GFB DV+ is you can find it under £100 elsewhere.

Thanks very much mate. I’m gonna change mine just in case. I’m guessing his fits all GTi’s, regardless what year they were built? Mines a 56 plate. Also, if mine needs changing would the EML come on?

You will know when the DV is torn...boost will be near zero depending of the size of tear.
More importantly to address with a 90k mile GTI is the cam follower. Not knowing if it has ever been changed and at 90k miles...I would swap in a new one. Expect to do so again after another 90k to 100k miles should it still be in your ownership and if it is still on stock internals in the hpfp.

Cam follower is a must awesome gti do a full package where you get follower oring and new bolts i am doing mine in the next couple of weeks plenty of how2 vids on the tubes.

With the DV being ripped i dont think they throw up any warning lights i think they throw up codes but need a vcds to read them and i dont have one yet. When i pulled out mine it was ripped to bits and i didnt have any warning lights. To be honest i had no idea if mine was broken or not as it's my first mk5 gti so had nothing to compare it with but i did know it wasent running the full 200bhp and it's so common for the early dv to break and if your wanting to mod a better one is a must broken or not really.

If you look into it some of the later rwvisions are favoured over the latest revision. But i swapped mine out for the latest and had no issues it was a rev c i had on mine. Was not broken i done as a precautionary measure. And i was working in that area of the car already.
